The global celebrations of World Environment Day 2018, being hosted by India, kicked off with a total of three thematic sessions being held at Vigyan Bhawan. Reflecting the “Beat Plastic Pollution” theme of this year’s World Environment Day, the inaugural session focused on the management of plastic pollution. In his special address on the occasion, Minister of State for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Dr. Mahesh Sharma pointed out that the need of the hour is to create a social awareness, particularly among the youth, on reducing the single use of plastic and its reuse. PM Modi graced the event by his presence.The week long celebrations saw a flurry of activities all over the country with many organizations coming together with the Government of India at Vigyan Bhavan (New Delhi) to exchange ideas and plans to effectively counter the menace of plastic while also discussing alternatives to it in at industrial, commercial and individual levels.
Project Details
The world environment day is a big celebration, engaging millions across the globe through events on the ground in over 70 countries. Every year, participants, young and old, organize clean up campaigns, art exhibits, tree-planting drives, and concerts, dance recitals, recycling drives, social media campaigns and different contests themed around caring for the planet.
